What is High-intensity PEMF?
A high-intensity pulsed electromagnetic field (HI-PEMF) is a non-invasive and non-contact delivery method. Pulsed electromagnetic fields over 2000 Gauss or 0.2 Tesla are considered to be High-intensity. The penetration depth of high-intensity PEMF is much higher and it’s possible to deliver higher energy fields deeper into the body. Decent high-intensity PEMF therapy machines produce PEMFs in the range of 0.3 – 2 T range.
The mechanism of therapeutic action of PEMF is to induce magnetic stimulation that stabilizes cation channels, restores equilibrium in ROS (free radicals), upregulates classes of protective and restorative genes, and downregulates dysregulatory and apoptotic genes. (Source).
At higher intensities, there is a substantial increase in regeneration and recovery of bones, cartilages, neural stem cells, energy levels (ATP). In addition it has a greater effect on the process of electroporation, thereby increasing nutrient and supplement absorption.
I’ve seen some great results in cases where we were using high-intensity PEMF for brain stroke recovery, pain, fractures, athletic performance. We noted substantially better results with the higher intensities. I find that the high power PEMF works great for instant relief and acts quickly. While the lower intensity PEMF is great for improving immunity and sleep. Both the intensities have their own uses. I would certainly use the lower intensities daily and the higher power for times where fast action is needed.
